The Client and Their Brief

We were tasked by creating an augmented reality stage show app for Mouser Electronics, working with SpiderJARs graphical guidance and models we were tasked with creating an applications for iPads where you could place down smart city layout over a real world model, The objective to create an immersive augmented experience with real world physical models and electronic devices.

Using Spatial Localisation And Mapping (SLAM) ar technology we composed an editor to place down the model where needed and keep it there for an extended period of time.

What We Did

Most models were provided by SpiderJar, we used blender to optimize and mange areas such as the model splines and paths along with UVs allowing the project to run smoother on the targeted iOS devices. The project was developed in UE4 using Blueprints to setup the functionality so that it worked with ARKit. UE4 allowed us to achieve the quality results that we desired.

We used ARKit to deliver two versions of the application, the first was primarily targeted towards iPad Pros used for the stage show demonstrations, this one ran everything in the highest quality settings, and had a stand set up for users that made sure the iPads were restricted in position helping to stabilize the AR.

The second was a lower quality version which would work on mobile devices for the iOS store, we targeted devices from iPhone 6s onwards due to ARKit support.

The Result

We delivered a stage show app and a mobile app which could demonstrate Mouser electronic products to users in their living room. We also gained experience working with SpiderJAR and how they handled stage show setups and rigs.
